Speciality Contact Lenses.
We believe strongly in giving back to the community.
Specialty contacts are lenses that are designed for patients who have corneal conditions or other eye issues for which conventional contacts aren’t suitable. Since regular contact lenses sit directly on the surface of the eyes covering the cornea, it is imperative that they fit correctly and comfortably.
Scleral lenses are large diameter rigid gas permeable lenses that range from 14 mm to over 20 mm in diameter. They are termed “Scleral” lenses because scleral lenses completely cover the cornea (the clear dome of tissue that covers the coloured part of the eye) and extend onto the sclera (the white part of the eye that forms the outer wall of the eye).
Scleral Lenses Can Let Anyone wear Contact Lenses! Scleral lenses are a specialized contact lenses that make contact lens use possible for many people for the first time – and they have advantages for normal contact lens wearers as well.
Rose K2 are special gas permeable lenses that are used to treat Keratoconus, Corneal Transplant patients, and Pellucid Marginal Degeneration.
These lenses were invented by Paul Rose in New Zealand who wanted to create a lens for patients who suffered from Keratoconus, an eye disease where the surface of the cornea becomes cone-shaped. From its initial development, the brand has grown throughout the years.
There are now many types of Rose K2 lenses including:
The Rose K2 lens with front surface aberration control
- The Rose K2 Irregular Cornea (IC) lens
- The Rose K2 Post Graft (PG) lens for post corneal surgical cases
- The Rose K2 NC lens specifically for nipple cones.
Unfortunately, since not everyone has a perfectly-shaped cornea, regular contacts won’t fit everyone. Some people also suffer from eye conditions, such as dry eye, which can make wearing conventional contact lenses difficult.
Fortunately, there are various types of specialty contact lenses that can combat these issues and make it possible for these patients to enjoy clear vision without glasses.
Eye exams have become far more advanced in recent years to learn more about your eye health beyond the refractive error. With a comprehensive eye exam by one of our optometrists, we can detect early signs of eye disease, such as dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
At Ephizo utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to compile digital records of your eye shape, structure, and unique qualities, our keratoconus eye doctor will create a custom vision solution for you. With a wide variety of options, including custom scleral lenses and Rose K2,
your vision can be significantly improved!
Estabilshing a Good Contact Lens Fit at Ephizo
It starts with a thorough eye exam to ensure the most up-to-date prescription and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear.
Fitting lenses to your lifestyle – We will determine the best fitting lens based on your lifestyle needs and the shape and health of your eyes. In most cases, you’ll have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your exam. You may even go home with a few samples before making a final decision.
Follow up fittings – Our team will follow up after the initial fitting and then make any necessary changes in fit or materials to get you the best possible result. We teach all our patients proper contact lens care and also possible consequences if proper care is not taken. Then we continue with long-term follow-up to monitor the condition of the lenses and to ensure that proper hygiene is being maintained.
